The Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omaha’s community concert band, has a concert on February 19, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the UNO Strauss Concert Hall that will include middle school All-Star French Horns. We will feature 7th and 8th grade horns on “Ember Skies”, “Horn A-Plenty” , and “The Padstow Lifeboat”. In addition to working with Dr. Joshua Kearney, Music Director for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, the students will work with Andrew Braun and Keith Davis in a sectional. We are excited to feature Ross Snyder, horn player with the Omaha Symphony, as a guest soloist in addition to the professional horn quartet, The Horns of the Heartland You won’t want to miss it!
Student Participant Registration for Directors
Band Directors select the students to participate. Each student must make the commitment to attend both the scheduled rehearsal (Monday, Feb 13) and concert (Sunday, Feb 19). You can nominate one or two of your best students. We ask that the students be ranked in the event we can only accept one student from each school.
Directors – Please complete one registration per student no later than January 13, 2022.

Padstow Lifeboat – AllStar Horns – All Stars Play the Melody at the Coda as well as other sections within the boxes. Do not play the parts that are not within a box.
We will play this just like the Reference recording for The Padstow Lifeboat
Here is the roadmap:
– Do not repeat A section – take the “Straight on” ending and continue with C
– Repeat the C and D section
– Do not repeat E section – take the second ending and DS back to letter A
– Play A section and take the “Coda” ending and play Coda to the end
Rehearsal with NWS – Monday, Feb 13, 2023 – 6:30-8:00PM
St. Thomas Lutheran Church – 17007 Q Street – in the Community Life Center
Students should bring their music, pencil, and a music stand to the rehearsal.
The rehearsal night activities to include:
– Sectional rehearsal with our clinicians
– Rehearsal of selections with Josh Kearney and the NE Wind Symphony
Concert with NWS – Sunday, Feb 19, 2023
UNO Strauss Performing Arts Center – 60th and Dodge
1:45PM – warm-up rehearsal in the performance hall
3:00PM – concert
Parents of participants can purchase tickets for $10 each.
Note: All Children and Students can attend our concerts for free.
To comply with UNO’s Youth Activity Policy, we request that a parent, guardian, and/or director accompany each student for the pre-concert rehearsal at UNO on February 19th.
Concert dress – white shirt/blouse and black/dark colored pants or skirt
This should be a fun and rewarding experience for each participating 7th and 8th grade student. We hope that their band directors will not only involve these players in this special performance, but will attend as well.
